Target try ons: Oct 2021

Target Australia - style inspiration from in-store displays

Hello freedom New South Wales and well done everyone for hitting the double vaccination target! Hope you've all enjoyed the past week. It's been so good to be able to get out and about hasn't it? Including being able to have a dine-in meal at a cafe/restaurant and to leisurely browse the supermarket aisle when you're undecided about what to cook for dinner and not hear Gladys's voice in your head telling you to be quick with your grocery shopping. *For readers not familiar with Australia, Gladys Berejiklian was our state premier during Covid-19 pandemic.

Anyway, Covid and politics aside, last weekend I headed to my local Westfield shopping centre and my first stop was to head to Kmart and Target to 1) return some of the items bought online during Covid that didn't suit me and I didn't want to pay for return postage, and 2) check out what's in store currently.  I spotted some nice things at Target but I have to admit it was a bit of a hit and miss when I tried them on, which I'll share here so read on down below.

Favourite find of the day: square neck tank top $20 here
(I could only find a size 12 to try on so it's a bit loose)

Not surprisingly, my two favourite finds of the day were both from the Dannii Minogue Petites range: the square neck tank top and one of the best fitting white jeans I've come across, shown in the photo below.

1. Dannii Minogue Petites Square Neck Tank Top $20

This was my favourite find of the day but sadly I was unable to find my usual size to try on in store so I'm thinking of ordering this online in a size 6P or 8P. I found a size 12P to try on, which is slightly large on me as you can see. The material was a nice, great quality and comfortable stretchy ribbed material. I was actually surprised that it was not too bad fitting considering that I'm wearing two or three sizes larger than I normally wear. It was only baggy around the arm pits area, so I reckon if your usual size is out of stock, you may be able to get away with wearing one size larger. The square neckline was not too plunging at all. I am imagining wearing this paired with a pencil skirt, black work pants or maybe one of my pleated skirts for an office look, and of course this would work equally well with casual jeans, shorts or any skirt for a more relaxed yet smart/casual outfit.

Target white jeans (wearing one size up in 10P)

2. Dannii Minogue Petites Skinny High Waist Ankle Length Jeans $39

It's notoriously difficult to find 'the perfect pair' of white jeans so I was pleasantly surprised when I tried this pair on. True to its very long name it is exactly as described - skinny, high waisted and ends at ankle length for petite ladies (I'm 150 cm tall). Again, I was not able to find my usual size in store so am trying on the size 10P here, which is almost a good fit except it was too gapey at the waist. The material is medium thick and they've gone to extra effort to make sure it's not see through by putting an inner lining around the buttock area (the downside is that I could see a very very faint line where the lining ends). They were stretchy and comfortable and available in a few shades of blue.

Rib knit tank top $25 in black or beige

I was not so lucky with the rest of the items I tried on in store that day.

3. Preview Rib Knit Tank Top $25

Rib tank tops seem to be all the rage this season and seems to be everywhere I look. I would say this one from the Preview range is a fairly basic and classic cut. Again, I struggled to find my size in store but looks like this is well stocked in all sizes online. It's a round neckline that skims just below my collarbones and is medium thick material. Also available in a beige.

Long sleeve scoop neck rib sweater on sale

4. Preview L/Sleeve Scoop Neck Rib Sweater, original price $30 now on sale $15 in store, $5 online

I loved the sage green colour of this top. However, although I managed to find an XS size to try, the scoop neck seems too wide on my shoulder frame and just didn't sit well. As you can see, my bra strap is on show no matter how much I tried to adjust the top. This may suit other ladies who might have broader shoulders. Top is available in variety of colours, which are also on sale.

Ribbed V-neck cardigan here

5. Preview ribbed V-neck cardigan, original price $30 now on sale $15

This was in the same ribbed material as the other tops I tried on. It has a standard V-neck with button closure. I tried on size XS and am 50/50 on this one. The sleeves are too long, although you could always fold in the excess material at the cuff, and the length of the cardigan was also long (I've tucked it inwards just above my belt). The shoulder line and arm pits area didn't sit well on me, but may suit other body shapes. Again, this is a great staple style to have in your closet and easy to slip on for those cooler spring/summer days or an air-conditioned office. Shame that I wasn't 100% in love with this one. Also available in variety of colours.

Preview wrap poplin mini dress in beige and in black

6. Preview wrap poplin mini dress, was $49 now $25 on sale

This style of dress looked very promising on the rack and the material was a nice cotton material with some stretch at the waist. I tried this dress in my usual size 6 and it was too loose in the shoulders and chest area (again, this seems to be a recurring problem for me with the Preview range but not the Dannii Minogue petites range) so this one may suit some ladies but not others (like me).

So overall, my two favourites out of the lot were from the Dannii Minogue range. I have seen other bloggers share their outfits of items from the Preview range items and looked amazing in it (@trashtotreasured and @shesoseasonal, but note that both of these Australia bloggers, who I admire heaps, are much taller and have fuller bosoms than me) so I would still recommend anyone looking for affordable good quality closet staples to give these items a try.

In case you'd like to see how these Target try ons look in live action, I'll be posting a reels video over on my Instagram account @choco_petitestyle where you can check it out :) I'm also planning to head out to the shops over coming weeks to check out what else is in store for other brands so stay tuned folks!

Did you find this review helpful? Leave a comment if you did (or not!). I'd love to hear what sort of posts you'd like to read more about on my blog.

xx and stay well everyone!
