H&M White lace dress for engagement party

We had such a lovely evening at our friend's engagement party this weekend at The Newport pub (2 Kalinya Street, Newport, Sydney). The couple-to-be included a dress code of 'any shade of white' on the invitation so I was glad I had this cute little lace dress on hand to wear instead of having to rush to the shops for some last minute shopping (not that I would have minded shopping, but lately I've been finding myself a little time-poor).
This little lace dress was an affordable find from H&M last year and currently available on sale for $30.99 AUD.
It's a simple V neck cut with adjustable spaghetti shoulder straps. There is a back zipper. The material is medium thickness without any stretch in the fabric. It's fully lined so no worries about being see through in white. The length ends right at my knees, not too long or not too short.
I took my usual size (EU34) and it's a snug fit. The bodice occasionally feels a little tight particularly when I'm seated though feels fine when standing, and I'm hoping that this is just Covid weight that I can get rid of. I would suggest to size up if you're worried about tight fit.
I was completely wowed by the engagement party venue. There was ample undercover outdoor seating so we didn't get wet at all despite the rainy weather. I was glad that The Boy insisted (and when I say insisted, he literally floored the brakes of the car as we were pulling out of the garage when he realised I didn't have a jacket with me in the car) and made me go back upstairs to fetch a coat. He had been to The Newport before and anticipated it would be chilly outdoors there. I suspect he was worried that he'd end up lending his jacket to me half way into the evening and he'd be the one left out in the cold (this wouldn't be the first time) lol!

The venue was very chic. It had lovely ambience with string of fairy lights to delight as well as glimpses of water views. I wish I had had more time to nicer photos but we were so busy catching up and chatting with friends that we hadn't seen for over a year due to Covid lockdown.

The food was classic Australia pub food, like wood fire pizza, burgers and chips, chicken schnitzel, salads and of course fish and chips. Coffee and tea, gelato and other desserts were available too. We ordered the fish and chips and a pumpkin salad. Both yum enough though I would suggest to ask the chef to go easy on the salt next time. The venue felt very similar to the Coogee Pavilion and I later realised that it's probably because both venues are run by Merivale group. The Newport is located in the Northern Beaches and if it wasn't so darn far away from us (over an hour's drive) I would love to visit this venue again or host a party there.
I loved how our friend's engagement party was a casual laid back affair. Guests purchased their own food and drinks, so no hassles about catering. They had a cake for the end of the evening and a simple toast. I also loved how they had a white dress code theme and most guests adhered to it, though many others were also donned up in cozy coats. |

I think it's definitely handy to always have a little white dress, little black dress and a little red dress in your closet that you can whip out for occasions like these without having to over think.
