Lunar New Year 2023: Red is for Luck

Happy Lunar New Year to those who are celebrating! And to others who may not be celebrating this festival but love to wear red, this post is for you. Recently on my Instagram feed, I shared five different outfits in festive red using current pieces I already own in my closet. This year for me, it's all about conscientious shopping and really thinking twice before making a new purchase and I think I have accumulated enough pieces that I love in my closet that I am really happy with keeping them for a long time before swapping them out.
Red is a brilliant colour to wear and traditionally thought to bring good luck. You can also wear similar looks for other festive seasons like Christmas and of course Valentine's Day that is coming up soon in February. And if wearing an all red outfit isn't quite your thing, you can always add a small pop of red with accessories like shoes, bags or belts.
Let me know which of the following is your favourite! Share down in comments or you can DM on my Instagram @choco_petitestylediary.
As mentioned, most of my items worn are old from my closet, but in case anyone is after something similar, I've linked the exact same or similar items in the captions - click on the pink for the link.
Happy 2023 and may this year be prosperous for you all, filled with love and good health!

Quick note about the Salvatore Ferragamo ballet flats. These are recent additions to my wardrobe. I found them on sale at Shopbop around Black Friday. At full retail, they are a bit exxy and previously I always seemed to miss out in my size when they go on sale or when I've visited outlet stores. I had previously read reviews that they can be narrow in the feet and some people recommend going up half a size. I ended up buying my usual size and on the two occasions that I've worn the flats so far, I find them very comfortable and did not really need any up sizing at all, so I would recommend that they are true to size.
I absolutely adore the shiny patent leather for Ferragamo flats, and already on the look out for other colours on sale. I have a slight preference for the Vara ballet flats which have 3 cm block heel over the Varina ballet flats, which are virtually flat though described to have a 1 cm heel.
I got mine on sale from Shopbop, but lately I have discovered an Australian online designer boutique called Cettire that seems to be permanently on sale with best comparable prices. They do free worldwide shipping on purchases over AUD $300 but the main downside is that as of June 2022 they charge a return fee of AUD $30 per item, or AUD $88 for items over AUD $1000.
I ended up getting the Vara block heels in a nude pink called Amaretti and the Varina flats in patent red and love both of them.
Witchery ribbed tee in berry pink (similar here from Cotton On in red), Reiss blazer UK4 old season hem cut (new season in black here), Levi's wedgie icon jeans (wearing sz 26, but should have got 25), Ferragamo Vara heels, Saint Laurent small Kate bag |
I love pairing red with grey; Ginia Silk cami size 6 from David Jones (similar here), H&M pleated skirt size XS, Loewe belt in sand (I have 70cm, if you're generally size AU 6 would suit 65-70cm length belt), Jimmy Choo Minny 85 strappy heels (old) |
Witchery lace dress size 6, Saint Laurent monogram bill pouch, Forever New heels |
