Shopping in the city and 5 things currently on my wish list Jan 2023
Hi guys, welcome back to my blog! In this post, I share a few pretty things that I spotted while in the city this weekend after catching up with a friend for lunch. I am pretty happy with what I have in my existing closet already, so didn't jump to any impulse buys (thankfully) but these dresses were so pretty that I'm keeping them on my wish list and will keep an eye out for them during sale time.
1. Forever New - Liana Printed Puff Sleeve Mini Dress in Red Peony Blossom
Forever New Liana mini dress, also comes in a midi dress version |
This was love at first sight as soon as I put this dress on. It is a puff sleeve dress without being over poofy on the sleeves and has the prettiest coral red peony floral print. It has a square line necklace and a ruched front bodice. There is a concealed zipper so it is easy to put the dress on. It is described as a mini dress and it ends a few cm above my knees.
The material is a light weight linen (will have to see how it holds up to wrinkling!) and is lined. I normally wear a AU size 6 (XS) in this brand, but for this dress I tried on the size 8 and it was a good fit. RRP is AUD $159.99 but there is currently $40 off promotion for this dress. The Liana mini dress also comes in a beautiful yellow Tuscan gold floral version that's on sale at $99.95.
2. Forever New - Sadie Strapless Linen Mini Dress in Isla Floral
Forever New dress (size 6, TTS) |
Forever New always seems to have the prettiest things in pastel colours and this is the perfect example. This one is a strapless mini dress in a pastel light blue with beautiful peony floral prints (I'm seeing a lot of peony lately!). There is a zipper at the back and the length sits mid thigh on me, a bit shorter than the first red dress I tried on. The material is a light weight linen and is also lined.
Netflix's series Emily in Paris season 3 returned to our screens just before Christmas and the French theme is still going strong. Loved this little houndstooth jacket and boucle skirt set, also from Forever New. They also always seem to have a selection of boucle skirts and jackets throughout the year in various colours and fabrics.
3. H&M Gathered Sleeve Blazer $69.95
Not really sure of the name of this blazer but this will also go on my watch list. This is an oversized blazer that actually fits really well on petite-sized me. I am wearing an XS and it fits like a dream. It has gathered sleeves and are probably meant to be 3/4 sleeve length on the average sized person but it just the perfect full length here. for petite sized me The blazer ends mid thigh, just where my shorts end. It is single breasted and has one button at the front that you do up. The colour is a neutral textured grey and material is light to medium weight, and I think it would suit most seasonal weather in Australia.
I had trouble finding the exact same blazer on the website but can see a black and white/cream version that is very similar but the material is smoother looking than the grey version I'm wearing. The jacket is lined. I can imagine all sorts of ways to wear this blazer: the usual denim jeans, work skirt, work pants, or substitute the denim shorts for more formal shorts, chuck on some heels and you have a Saturday night hot chick outfit happening. It is a good price for a good fitting blazer at AUD $69.99. I tried on the XS size and it was a perfect fit.
4. French Connection Ruffle Shirred Midi Dress in spiced pink AUD $149.95
French Connection dress (size 6) |
This was another dress that I absolutely fell in love with. The frilly sleeve style midi dress (or maxi if you're someone more petite like me at 150cm/5 foot tall) is a common style I'm seeing this summer but this one seems to fit just right. Problems I have had with other dresses in this similar style include the frills being too frilly and huge and out of proportion to my size or the length of the dress being too long. I am wearing my usual size (AU 6) and it's a perfect fit. It is 100% cotton which I find the most comfortable to wear in hot weather. I'm hoping that there will be a sale/discount coming up soon for me to nab this dress. p.s. Dress also comes in a royal blue colourway.

I've just realised but three out of the five items on this page are a peachy pink colour! Hope you've enjoyed this post and hope it was helpful in case you have been on the hunt for some pretty summer dresses yourself! Have a great week and see you back again soon.
