Like many ladies out there, I seem to have a weakness for chunky knit winter sweaters. My latest favourite addition to my collection is this $25 one from Kmart called the Funnel Neck Balloon Sleeve Sweater in velvet red. The colour is a beautiful reddish brown, somewhat similar to the sepia brown colour of my Chloe bag. The sweater also comes in other colours, currently available in an orange and lemon yellow though I'm pretty sure I saw a white version previously.

I can't seem to find my exact sweater on the Kmart website today, but there are two very similar coloured sweaters without the balloon sleeves available in the velvet red. Even if my exact sweater is no longer available, I think there are many similar sweaters out there and you can style them with my formula: 1) Casual outfit: sweater + jeans + flats/boots/sneakers, 2) Workwear: sweater + pants + heels, 3) Workwear: sweater + pencil skirt + flats/heels.
Definitely lives up to its description of balloon sleeves! |
The sweater is very much a chunky knit. It does feel a bit oversized on me so it's good if you're after a relaxed fit but may not be so good if you prefer a slimmer style. I took my usual size (size 6) and you can see that the balloon sleeves are quite dramatic on me. The length comes down to my hips when untucked, but you can always tuck into your trousers or skirt to give it a more cropped look. |

After wearing this sweater for a week now, here are my thoughts:
Pros:
- Chunky knit style and cosy feel - tick
- Classic style that won't go out of fashion
- Very warm - I wore this on days when the temperature was between 10 and 16 degrees in Sydney, and during the daytime I did not need any other layers. Might need a jacket or coat if it's early morning or evening after the sun has gone down
- Affordable price
Cons:
- Material is an acrylic, polyester and elastane blend
- Drops fluff like crazy - I've had to pick up numerous bits of fluff off my floor this weekend mistaking it for bugs
- Oversized relaxed fit may not suit more petite sized ladies
- I haven't had the sweater long enough yet, but looking at the material I do wonder if it's likely to pill
Stay healthy and safe everyone!
xx
